Composer, saxophonist and flutist Anna Webber has been working since 2013 with Simple Trio, made up of John Hollenbeck on drums and Matt Mitchell on piano. Their music showcases what the New York Times called “the band members' palette: searing, intense collective improvisation” in songs that are like living beings, taking the audience in different directions with each listen. Their fourth album, Simpletrio2000 (Intakt Records, October 2024), is an exploration of polyrhythm and a celebration of a decade of working together; it follows their critically acclaimed album Idiom, which earned Webber a JazzTimes Composer of the Year award in 2021.
