Antoine Piron-Meyer, known as Agni, is a Swiss painter born in Geneva in 1937. Trained in Geneva and an important figure in the local art scene, he developed a singular body of work where realism, poetry, and a rich imagination intersect.

This exhibition presents a selection of works by Antoine Piron-Meyer. In addition to the artworks on display, the exhibition is enriched by publications, documents, and archival photographs, offering deeper insight into the artist’s journey, his research, and his commitment. These elements provide valuable context for understanding the genesis of his work and its place within Geneva’s artistic and urban history.

Fascinated by painting from an early age, he built a deeply personal universe, notably influenced by Hieronymus Bosch, whom he considers a major reference. He situates his work within a historical continuity, viewing painting from the 13th to the 15th centuries as a living foundation for renewing the art form.

After receiving the Young Painting Prize in 1965, he took part in numerous exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad. In 1973, his participation in a group exhibition at the Musée Rath confirmed his integration into institutional art circuits. From the late 1970s onward, he intensified his engagement in public space by founding the group Vaisseau in 1979. He then developed an urban art practice through numerous murals and interventions throughout the city, transforming ordinary spaces into creative environments accessible to all.

He was a professor at the Geneva School of Fine Arts from 1967 to 1994 and was actively involved in defending artists’ rights within professional organizations. He played an important role in urban and cultural projects, notably in the preservation and rehabilitation of the Halles de l’Île. Agni also contributed significantly to cultural and artistic life through his commitment to artists.

This exhibition presents a selection of works curated by Anouk-Eva Meyer, his niece and curator of this exhibition at Espace Kugler Gallery.

Program during the exhibition:
From May 10 to May 12, painter Barbara Meyer, born in Munich in 1942 and trained at the Geneva School of Fine Arts, will present her unique body of work centered on one-of-a-kind artist books, “Mahler Bücher.” For many years, she has been creating works based on her own paintings to accompany texts from world literature, in several languages.
