In Benin and Haiti, Vodou reveals a world of spirits in motion—between deities, ancestors, and zombies, where no event is left to chance.

What are spirits in the Vodou traditions of Benin and Haiti? What journeys do they undertake, and for what purposes? By following the justice-dealing deity Heviosso and the dances of the Egungun (Benin), as well as the flight of spirits alongside zombies (Haiti), we will seek to better describe this circulating metaphysics—this dynamic divine order in which no gesture is ever the result of chance, and where no illness or death is ever considered natural.
