Flamboyant, diverse, and full of inspiration, the Balkans reveal their rich cultural heritage through concerts, performances, dance events, talks, and film screenings!

Flamboyant, lively, diverse, and inspired: the Balkans form a rich cultural mosaic shaped by centuries of encounters and exchanges. Far from museums and postcard clichés, the Mysteries of the Balkans festival draws on this vibrant heritage to reveal its full richness and expressive power.
Artists from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Crimea, Romania, Turkey, Greece, and even Ukraine come together for a series of concerts, family performances, dance events, talks, lectures, and film screenings.
Syncopated songs, whirling dances, striking timbres, colourful village costumes — these traditions carry both the memory of peoples, sometimes painful, and their extraordinary ability to celebrate the wonders of the world around them.
At the heart of this festival is a tribute to Marcel Cellier (1925–2013), tireless ambassador of Eastern European music to Western audiences. A musician, ethnomusicologist, radio producer, and above all great traveller, he brought the voices of the “Other Europe” to light from Switzerland: from the Black Sea to Bulgarian villages, Romanian monasteries, the cymbalum, and the now-legendary choir Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares.
A hundred years after his birth, his work still resonates with intensity.
This festival, in its diversity and generosity, continues in that spirit. It also seeks to remind us of the strength of tradition in keeping intercultural dialogue alive.
Through the voices, music, and dances of this programme, a spirit of curiosity, sharing, and the joy of listening and watching is passed on.
