Sacred music, songs, tales, and fables—uplifting, funny, or moving—appear in this interweaving of music and voices, genies, ghouls, and other djinns, alongside sultans, beys, and simple merchants. These stories from the Levant are even more striking in that they evoke simple or marvelous beings who, while living there, speak to us more clearly about them.
