What if magical thinking had profoundly contributed to the emergence of modern free thought? In this interview, Adrien Mangili discusses his work "Natural Magic and Free Thought," which examines the paradoxical role of natural magic in the formation of critical thinking during the Renaissance and the 17th century. Rival to religion in the explanatory field, natural magic allows free thinkers to shift the question of miracles to that of the secret forces of nature.
