The poetic challenge of Nos paysages mineurs is to sum up a lifetime of love in an hour on the train. In this elliptical play with cinematographic overtones, seen through the windows of a compartment, time dilates as the tunnels follow one another.

In the mid-1970s, the paths of Liliane and Paul cross, soon to form a single trajectory, seven years unfolding before our eyes to the rhythm of the underground passages and the original score of cellist Vincent Ségal.

In this sensitive and beautiful play, Marc Lainé opens the stage to endless journeys and the ups and downs of life.

En finir avec leur histoire reunites Liliane and Paul, the two characters in Nos paysages mineurs, sixteen years after their break-up. There is talk of the child the couple had together by accident, of Paul’s artistic failure and ruin, of Liliane’s battles won and lost, and the impossible end of stories, both intimate and geopolitical.

Continuing his research at the crossroads of theatre and film, Lainé uses this intimate story of a couple to paint a tender, nuanced portrait of the “baby boomer” generation, who have moved on from the exaltation of May 1968 in France to a disappointing future.

These two stand-alone shows can be seen together or separately, as an invitation to travel.
