Conductor Elim Chan, the newly appointed Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony, returns to the OSR alongside mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa for a programme that brings together French lyricism, contemporary creation, and orchestral brilliance.
The evening opens with the Swiss premiere of Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain by Noriko Koide, a finely crafted work of delicate colours and shimmering textures. Marianne Crebassa then takes centre stage in Les Nuits d’été, Berlioz’s celebrated song cycle, where each melody explores the many shades of human emotion, from dream and desire to longing and melancholy. The orchestra then assumes the leading role in Concerto for orchestra, Bartók’s dazzling and inventive masterpiece, showcasing every section of the ensemble in turn.
Under Elim Chan’s baton, these three distinctive musical worlds come together in a concert rich in colour, imagination, and expressive power.
