Obon, the Japanese festival honoring the dead
The Obon festival is an annual Japanese holiday that commemorates and remembers deceased ancestors. Come and discover this Japanese tradition on Saturday August 31st at the Saint-Georges cemetery.
Immerse yourself in Japanese tradition during an afternoon dedicated to Obon, the festival of ancestors. This two-part event will transport you to the heart of Japanese customs for a moment of sharing and discovery.
On Saturday afternoon, a fun and creative workshop awaits children at the Maison de Quartier du Plateau in Petit-Lancy. Children will make typical Japanese lanterns and explore the stories and symbols of Obon.
From 6:00 pm onwards, the public is invited to the Saint-Georges Cemetery for a colorful evening. In collaboration with the Suisse-Japon association, you will discover the rites and traditions of Obon through presentations, Bon Odori dances and the sound of traditional Japanese drums.
