Oya - Clima Yaakaar

Created by Senegalese artists Mao Sidibé and Def Mama Def, alongside dancers from École des Sables, Oya – Clima Yaakaar is a collective project responding to the climate crisis.

Trois personnes sont habillées en tenues très colorées, avec des étoffes de tissu, des coquillages, de la fourrure. La personne au centre est montée sur des échasses.

Oya is an artistic project that brings together music, contemporary African dance and photography to highlight the health consequences of climate change for the most exposed populations. The word Oya means “Let’s go” in several Nigerian languages, while Yaakaar means “hope” in Wolof. Photographer Sylvain Cherkaoui, who was present during filming in Senegal, adds a visual layer to the project. His images connect artistic practice with lived experience and humanitarian realities. The work is exhibited on the walls of the Festival bookshop.
A project produced and presented by Médecins Sans Frontières.
