In 1790, Carouge counted more than 450 craftsmen specialized in about thirty trades: blacksmiths, sandblasters, woodcarvers, coopers, linen maids, laundresses... Nowadays, leatherworkers, chocolatiers, milliners, painters, jewelers, designers, florists, watchmakers and even cosmetic makers, continue to shape the identity of the city.
Carouge, with its harmonious architecture, its environment steeped in history, its friendly atmosphere, and the warmth of its inhabitants, has been an ideal breeding ground for the development of a unique craft know-how. This guided tour will take you to meet some of the city’s artists and craftspeople who will be happy to reveal their trade secrets. But that’s not all.
