New TMG 2026 creation, in co-production with the OCG and the Ecolint Arts Centre

A luminous puppet opera in a world ablaze
Jupiter is furious. Humanity fills him with despair. The Earth is populated only by selfish and greedy beings, liars and violent. Accompanied by Mercury, he decides to descend from Olympus to mingle with humans and judge whether this species deserves survival or annihilation. Disguised as beggars, the two gods are turned away at every door. Only a poor farming couple, Philemon and Baucis, offer them hospitality. Will they manage to appease divine wrath?
The Geneva Chamber Orchestra and the TMG join forces to revive Joseph Haydn's opera Philemon and Baucis, composed in 1773 specifically for puppets. This reimagining combines spoken text and operatic arias in a contemporary production directed by Kim Crofts. Here, the puppets give form to mythical characters, immortalized in Ovid's Metamorphoses, whose problems resonate strangely with our current world.
