To see the city through other eyes, to echo its diversity with an artistic vocabulary. Mixing text, acting, film sequences, and music, "Portrait" takes us into an astonishing urban labyrinth.
Alexandre Simon and Cosima Weiter have been exploring territories for the past fifteen years through what is most precious to them: their inhabitants. After East Germany, England, the United States and the far north of Europe, they set off to meet Geneva, a bit like one returns home to flush out its secrets, those of a composite and multicultural family. Her story is enriched by those of Anne, Mika, Rosa and others, all Genevans by adoption. Pierre Maillet gives body and voice to their testimonies, collected and written by Cosima Weiter, while a trio of musicians accompanies the movement under the direction of Vincent Bertholet. The sequences filmed by Alexandre Simon, which constitute an essential part of the scenography, complete this ingenious device that combines artistic sensitivity and subjective anthropology. We then witness, through fine impressionist touches and rigorous and inspired editing, the emergence of a singular and plural Geneva.
