Wednesday 7 May - 20:00 - La Julienne

Une illustration artistique représentant un groupe de femmes de diverses origines manifestant pour leurs droits.

Inés, a Spanish animation filmmaker, is in Ahmedabad, India, breaking up with her boyfriend Àmàr. While there, she wanders into a bookshop and stumbles upon Sultana’s Dream, a science-fiction story penned by Rokeya Hossain in 1905. The tale envisions Ladyland, an idyllic realm where women rule and men remain sequestered, taking care of the household. Intrigued by both the text and its author, Inés embarks on a journey across India in pursuit of the only place where women might live in peace. Sultana’s Dream is an animated film that fuses watercolours and henna illustrations.
