Why, in the 19th century in Geneva, did psychology take an interest in occult phenomena?

Lecture by Camille Jaccard, Doctor of History and Philosophy
At the end of the 19th century, emerging psychology was interested in occult phenomena. In Geneva, scholars explore the marvelous. They publish studies on spiritist trance and the talismans preserved at the Museum of Ethnography. We will address the scientific interest in "magical thinking" by the founder of the Laboratory of Psychology, the works of Jean Piaget dedicated to childhood, as well as psychoanalytic studies on neurosis.
