In keeping with the architecture of the Villa Bernasconi, the house itself becomes a haunted subject, allowing voices and absent people to appear, the ‘others’ we live with, who keep us company...

Inhabited by spectral, fragile and troubling presences, the Villa Bernasconi hosts the exhibition Stitches: A Haunted House and Other Ghost Stories by the Collectif Détente. The exhibition explores here the spectral potential of fabrics and is a continuation of the Stitches curatorial project begun in 2020.
The invisible is given form through clothing, the fabric becomes a messenger between worlds telling interrupted stories and reviving forgotten events.
On the borders of the perceptible, the exhibition explores what the ghostly figure and its habitat reveal of contemporary art practice. The works are witnesses to hidden inheritance, collective fears and intimate memories giving form to what should not or cannot be exposed. With tenderness, malice and fear the works uncover the obsessions which nest in domestic objects, living spaces and social structures.
