The Abyssinians – Reggae / Jamaica

The Abyssinians, a Jamaican roots reggae band, are known for their promotion of Rastafarian culture and their vocal harmonies. Founded in 1968, the band soon released their first song, “Satta Massagana”: a Rastafarian anthem sung partly in Amharic, an Ethiopian language. Very soon, the duo formed by Bernard Collin and Donald Manning welcomed a third member, Lynford Manning. The band’s career took off in the 1970s with the release of several iconic tracks, such as “Declaration of Rights” and “Y Mas Gan”. After splitting up in the 1980s, the band reformed in the late 1990s.

Lone Ranger – Reggae / Jamaica

Lone Ranger is a Jamaican reggae DJ whose career took off in the late 1970s. Known for his hits “Answer”, “Love Bump”, “M16” and “Rose Mary”, he brought his own personal touch to the DJ style popularised by U-Roy. His distinctive gimmicks, his toasting style and his entertainment-focused approach made him the most popular DJ of the era. Arriving in Paris in 1979, he laid the foundations for Sound System culture there.

Mother Dubber x 1000 balles – DJ set / Geneva

Mother Dubber is a curator, researcher, and DJ specializing in the history of modern music and cultural anthropology. She has been collecting records since 2001 and uses her vinyl collection as an archive for an anthropological study in which sound, illustration, text, and fashion are explored on an equal footing. Her goal is to draw parallels between pre-colonial African traditions and post-colonial musical expressions of the Black diaspora, ranging from the West African disco records he inherited from her father to the soundtracks of the countercultural movements that defined her childhood.
Blending wave, dub, post-punk, and underground pop, 1000 balles crafts free-flowing, danceable sets where genres blend and merge. A Geneva-based DJ and musician, she has been active on the underground scene since 2018. A member of the band Maraudeur and the Kakakids Records collective, she books concerts for Bongo Joe, LUFF, and Festival Face Z, and is part of the team behind L’Écurie, a must-visit DIY venue in Geneva.
