The Awakening of the MEG Sound Archives, at the Bibliothèque de la Cité

Live sound montage using records from the MEG sound archives, featuring recordings made in Borneo, Papua and various forest environments

Thursday, March 26, 7:00–8:30 PM
This performance proposes to awaken sound recordings made in Borneo and other forest environments—ecosystems that are both threatened and preserved by Indigenous populations. To bring them back to life, Madeleine Leclair improvises a live sound montage using vinyl records of music and sounds recorded in Borneo, Southeast Asia and the Amazon, revealing the acoustic richness of these environments.
These records, originally produced in a scientific context, mostly come from the collection of the International Archives of Folk Music (AIMP) at the MEG, which includes around 10,000 vinyl records from five continents, along with a few items from Madeleine Leclair’s personal collection.
