Trances et possessions

Short film screening

plusieurs danseurs d'un pays asiatique

A film evening dedicated to ethnographic approaches to trance and possession in Balinese, Nigerien, and Salentine cultures. Documentary films by Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson (Trance and Dance in Bali, 1936), Jean Rouch (Les Maître fous, 1955), and Gianfranco Mingozzi (La Taranta, 1962) will be screened, unfolding between narrative power, ritual strangeness in a colonial context, and poetic scope.
Screening followed by a discussion with the historian Michel Porret
