Visions of the future

Ciné-club universitaire de Genève's spring cycle of science fiction films

Through tales of fantasy, mysticism and introspection, the Visions of the Future cycle highlights the most dreamlike dimensions of science fiction. Each film opens a door to a world both strange and familiar, where we question the links between humans and the universe, memory and the present moment, artificial intelligence and human consciousness. Through breathtaking visual compositions and intimate staging, great science-fiction cinema encourages us to feel, to contemplate and to meditate. Far from the noisy, saturated worlds of certain blockbusters, these works privilege silence, space, emptiness and infinity. With their ability to transport us beyond what we know, these Visions of the Future plunge us into universes where the frontiers of reality and imagination intertwine.
Through narratives in which humans confront immeasurable forces that remind us of our smallness, fragility and finitude, the filmmakers invite us to rethink our place in the cosmos.
