Aquatic plants found in our books

Are you familiar with aquatic plants? Discover some aquatic plants that we have been studying for over two centuries at the Geneva Botanic Garden.

Reproduction partielle de la planche 5, Francesco Saverio, Castracane degli Antelminelli, « Botany : vol. 2 : report of the Diatomacea... », In : Report on the scientific results of the voyage of H.M.S. Challenger during the years 1873-1876 [...], London, Longmans, 1886.

The label "aquatic plants" encompasses a wide variety of plants that share one common characteristic: they live partially or entirely in the water or in a humid environment.

Based on scientific publications by scholars from Geneva, the oldest of which dates back to the early 19th century, come and discover some emblematic species such as green algae, diatoms, and the shoreweed (Littorella uniflora).
