Extinct plants in the herbarium of the Geneva Botanic Garden

A tour exploring the disappearance of plants as part of the exhibition ‘Telling the Story of Death’.

Centaurea tuntasia, a été récoltée pour la toute dernière fois à l'état sauvage en 1942 (Grèce).

Since 1750, around 600 plant species have disappeared forever from the wild due to the destruction of their natural habitats.
Some are preserved in our herbarium, silent witnesses to a tragic history that places humanity at the heart of the sixth mass extinction.
How can we describe the extinction of these species? What can we do to halt it?
