Gardeners, scientists, explorers, artists, curators, and visitors: meet the women who have shaped the history of the Geneva Botanic Garden and the field

The history of botanical gardens often focuses on men. Yet women have also left their mark on these institutions and on the field of botany. This tour explores women’s contributions to botany and to our institution.
Our herbarium contains specimens that bear witness to the botanical work of women such as Jeanne Barret (1740–1807) and Sofia Topali (1900–1944). Our library holds numerous works created by women from around the world.
Today, the gardeners make up about half of our garden team, and our many scientists advance our understanding of the plant and fungal worlds through their research every day.
Registration begins on August 26.
