Does preserving frozen seeds make sense in a world that is constantly evolving in the face of climate change? What are the challenges ?

The purpose of a seed bank is to preserve the genetic diversity of endangered species in the wild and to enable stored seeds to support them in their natural environment.
But what happens if the seeds remain in the freezer for too long and do not change, while the outside world undergoes radical transformations due to climate change? Will these seeds still be able to survive in nature? What use could they still be?
With our scientist Andreas Ensslin, come and learn more about the current state of research on this issue and how scientists at the Geneva Botanic Garden are addressing this problem.
This guided tour is part of the Climate Week programme.
